Hello friends and Happy Tuesday!
As we start the week off, I wanted to share on some thoughts I had, heading into this evening’s edition of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Tonight, we have highly touted Bo Nickal (1-0) headlining in the main event. Training out of American Top Team, Nickal is known for his collegiate wrestling career, specifically winning the NCAA Division 1 National Championship three times. Although, on paper, he may lack in MMA bout experience, he has helped serve as training partners for UFC vets, including the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier. We should also note his lone pro win came as a result of a Knockout in Round 1 of his fight vs. opponent Mike King. Should Bo win and have an impressive performance tonight, he will be offered a contract to fight for the UFC.
As I look at tonight’s DWCS card, I am also intrigued with the night’s opening fight. In the flyweight division, we have Peru’s Sandra Lavado (10-2) taking on Karolina Wojcik of Poland (8-2). These two had a very fiery face off, prior to tonight’s fight. Although I am not admittedly familiar with either fight, I look forward to seeing fireworks between these two. Who doesn’t love a good fight?!?!
3. Last week’s edition of the Contender Series card was one was that highly spoken of within the MMA community for its high-action and overall quality of fights. (All but one fight had an early finish!) If you are not watching these fights, I would highly recommend you start tuning in. These are some of the world’s best fighters that are not signed and are really putting it all out there to secure a contract with the UFC. I also believe that ESPN/UFC does a great job of giving us a brief insight into these fighters and their backstory. I’ve said this before but with shows like these, it becomes very difficult to not become invested in these fighters and their success once you know what is truly on the line for them.
Tonight’s card starts at 8PM EST and can be streamed on ESPN+.
I hope you’ll be watching with me as I am truly hyped for some great and high- octane Tuesday night fights!
